Anti-fingerprint galvanized steel is a galvanized steel product that has been coated with a thin organic film or treated with a specialized passivation solution containing organic resins and colloidal silica. This coating creates a surface that does not readily retain visible fingerprints.

Early anti-fingerprint coatings contained hexavalent chromium, which provided excellent corrosion resistance but raised environmental concerns. Regulatory pressure—particularly in Europe and North America—has driven the industry to transition:

Historically, anti-fingerprint products were based on electro-galvanized steel (EG), which offered superior surface smoothness. However, hot-dip galvanized steel (HDG) has made significant quality improvements. Today, HDG provides comparable surface quality at lower cost and with better corrosion resistance. As a result, hot-dip galvanized steel is increasingly the substrate of choice for anti-fingerprint applications.
